Question: Are we investing our time in Ministry?
9b. …he departed from them and withdrew the disciples, reasoning daily in the school of Tyrannus.
10 And this continued for two years, so that all who dwelt in Asia heard the word of the Lord Jesus, both Jews and Greeks.
Paul taught daily in the school for two years. His ministry reached all of Asia where Ephesus was the leading city of that region.
Are we investing our time in ministry?
Ephesus was a key city to the region. People went there to visit the synagogue, to worship the goddess Diana, to be educated, to trade in business. This allowed Paul to reach many from the region within the city of Ephesus.
How about the people we are serving? Are some of them also business people or students? Many of them are coming and going and spreading the gospel as they go.
Lets not have ADHD when it comes to our service. Stay focused. As Paul, invest your time teaching them the Bible and serving them in the name of Jesus. Of course, the first place to start is within our own home. But I know many of you are serving in other areas as well. So please make some comments below regarding your service, I would love to hear how others are serving our Lord.
Proverbs 31:16 (NKJV) 16 She considers a field and buys it; From her profits she plants a vineyard.
18 She perceives that her merchandise is good, And her lamp does not go out by night.
20 She extends her hand to the poor, Yes, she reaches out her hands to the needy.
A story of Faithful service from a multitude of Christians.
Last week while teaching Faith Based Guitar at a residential center. I met a teen who had some trouble with the law. After I finished playing them a Bible song, we did a short study on the importance of reading the Bible. This teen grew up in the AWANAS program at the teen’s church. AWANAS is a great Bible memorization program for children. As I began listing off the books of the New Testament on the white board, this teen could repeat almost all the New Testament books in order from memory. Somebody had spent hours helping this child memorize in their younger years. This teen confessed to me today, that yesterday during the volunteer church service at the facility, the teen had rededicated their life to Jesus. Think about the dedicated-faithful Christians that the Holy Spirit used to impact this teen’s life over the years: the teen’s parents, the AWANAS teachers, the teen’s church, the volunteer church Pastor at the residential center, the Christian staff, the lowly guitar teacher. Amen.
Can we reach our region alone?
Remember those 12 disciples that Paul placed his hands on to receive the gifts of the Holy Spirit? Two years and 3 months later that number had grown. Surely they helped Paul to reach out into the region and preach the Gospel. The primary function of the church is to equip the saints for the work of the ministry. Then the gospel will naturally spread as the Holy Spirit will overflow out of changed lives.
Most of us are not alone. In major cities in the USA, there are thousands of other Christians reaching out within their region. On GMO, I speak with some brothers by email who only have one other Christian with which to serve. One gentleman that comes to mind works in a remote mining facility for months at a time. Well, praise God that the man has one other Christian brother with which to share and serve. I pray that others will become Christians at their work, and then they will equip the new believer to also do the work of the ministry.
Keep teaching and serving guys. Your service is making a difference even when it is sometimes hard to see and a bit discouraging.
11 And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers,
12 for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ,
13 till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ;
14 that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting,
15 but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head—Christ—16 from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by what every joint supplies, according to the effective working by which every part does its share, causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love.
