Colossians 2 verses 4 and 5

4 I say this so that no one will deceive you through arguments that sound reasonable.
5 For though I am absent from you in body, I am present with you in spirit, rejoicing to see your morale and the firmness of your faith in Christ.

Key words and phrases:

I say this – meaning all of Paul’s words up to this point about the nature of Christ and His Gospel that was once hid but is now revealed

So no one will deceive you through arguments that sound reasonable – meaning, in the context of the entire letter, that they should not be deceived and think that salvation is by any other way but by Christ alone

For though I am absent from you in body – meaning that Paul was not present with them, but we know that Paul was under arrest in Rome when he wrote this letter

I am present with you in spirit – meaning his thoughts and heart was deeply attended to them

Rejoicing to see your morale and firmness of your faith in Christ – meaning he was pleased to hear that they were all firm in the gospel and not yet deceived

Listening Prayer method – a method where you write what you think God would say to you after meditating and studying a Bible passage.

Are We Diligent to Discern?

Beware of false teachers and false religious systems!  Their arguments may sound good and reasonable, but in the end, they will make you depend upon yourself for salvation. You cannot be saved by your own efforts. Salvation is by faith alone in Me alone.

Some religious systems are very deceptive. They would have you trust in Me and your good works. But your salvation is only dependent upon Me. If it’s up to you in any way, then My work was insuffecient and unnecessary. If you need to depend on your own righteousness at all, then you will fail, and you will have no hope.

Of course be ye holy because I am holy. But do not depend on your acts of holiness for salvation. For even your righteous acts are corrupted and flawed!

Be diligent and discerning of doctrines!  Don’t be lazy and just accept it because it sounds good. But study My scriptures and struggle with them to know My will.

Be watchful over your family, and friends, and church. Watch out for them that a false doctrine will not slay their soul or destroy their life. Be watchful over your own self, so that you will not spread falsities.
