Colossians 2 verse 14

14 He has destroyed what was against us, a certificate of indebtedness expressed in decrees opposed to us. He has taken it away by nailing it to the cross.

Key words and phrases:

He has destroyed what was against us – meaning God has detroyed or blotted out what was against us as stated below.

A certificate of indebtedness – meaning the debt that we owed is analogous to a certificate.  Legally it may be likened to a judgement of guilt signed and certified by a judge.

Expressed in decrees opposed to us – meaning the certificate of indebtedness includes counts of broken laws which we have willfully  violated and decrees of judgement for each count.

He has taken it away – meaning God has taken this guilt certificate away. It was a work of God and not by works of men. He took it away – meaning the certificate of guilt is gone and we are free and no longer held accountable for it.

By nailing it to the cross – meaning it was possible because the penalty of indebtedness was paid for by His Son when He was nailed to the cross on our behalf.

Listening Prayer method – a method where you write what you think God would say to you after meditating and studying a Bible passage.

Are you Pardoned?

I know all your sins. I have reviewed each sin, and I have passed judgement on each one. You have broken the natural laws of your own conscience. You have broken my revealed laws to Moses. You have broken the laws expressed by Christ and His Apostles. Your faults have come before Me – I have judged righteously – I have written My judgement for each sin. The roll of My judgements are all recorded and certified by My authority. You have been found guilty on all counts! Your sentence is eternal death!

Yet, by My amazing grace, I have blotted out and detroyed this certificate of your guilt.  Oh don’t think that this pardon has come at the expense of My justice. My Justice and wrath was satisfied. My Son paid the sentence of your death penalty!  When He was nailed to the cross, your sins were nailed to the cross and My justice was served!

Your certificate of guilt has been detroyed, taken away, and nailed to the cross when My Son was nailed to the cross.  By trusting in the substitutional death of my Son, You are pardoned of all guilt in my sight. Let this grace motivate you to live a life worthy  of this grace!
