Colossians 2 verse 15

15 Disarming the rulers and authorities, he has made a public disgrace of them, triumphing over them by the cross.

———

Key words and phrases:

Disarming the rulers and authorities – meaning spiritual powers because this verse is in close association with the previous verse regarding our certificate of debt being nailed to the cross. Sins are spiritual concerns. Human powers and authorities are not effected by our sins being nailed to the cross. Therefore, Satan and his angels of sin are in view. They have been disarmed. Their power to destroy us is the weapon of sin by tempting us that we may fail and be subject to God’s wrath because of his righteous judgement. Yet, Christ suffered God’s wrath for sin, and now Satan is disarmed with no weapon to detroy the believer.

He has made a public disgrace of them – meaning this was done in public view on the cross and at His appearances after his resurrection; and they are disgraced because they thought they had won by killing the Son of God, but instead it was God’s plan for victory the whole time; and they are disgraced  because now they are as solders without a weapon.

Triumphing over them by the cross – meaning Christ on the cross conquered Satan, He has had victory, He has won the war against sin and death.

Are we Celebrating His Victory?

Bob,

I, Jesus, have won the victory over sin and death. Celebrate!!  Don’t let anyone deceive you by telling you that you need to do anything else to save you from your sins. Only have faith in Me!

I have already conquered sin and death! Celebrate!  Satan tempted Eve and deceived them, and they chose to follow their lust. They in-prisoned humanity to God’s wrath. Satan tempted men at babel. He tempted Israel and they were almost totally dissolved. Finally, Satan thought he had victory over Me by My death on the cross.

Yet, he did not see that instead of this being his victory, it was My victory!  He knew the first Adam had to experience death, but he did not see that I, the second Adam, the representative for man, suffered the First Adam’s sentence. Now the penalty for death has been paid, and men are free from the penalty!  Celebrate!

Satan has been crushed under my heal. All things are under my feet. I am far above all rulers and authorities. I captured the captives.  I have disarmed Satan and his angels. I have disgraced them publicly. I am triumphing over them. At the end, he will be cast into the lake of fire. Celebrate!

Therefore, live a life worthy of this victory. Do not fall for Satan’s schemes. Don’t listen to false teachers saying you need to do works for salvation. Only trust in Me. Rest in Me. The victory has already been won!!  Celebrate!
