Words and phrases:

If you have died with Christ – meaning in God’s eyes and His reckoning when Christ died for our sins we also died with Him. In God’s reckoning, Christ is our representative and second Adam, and we were in Him at His death.  By faith, believers trust that God sees them as having died with Christ for the penalty oft he first Adam’s sin and for their own sin.  Other scriptures mention that in God’s reckoning we were crucified with Him, buried with Him, raised with Him, and seated in heavenly places in Him.  From the believer’s perspective, they died from self, sin, and the world at their own conversion.

to the elemental spirits of the world – meaning we have died to the world’s elementary, fundamental, and rudamental false methods of salvation which seem to all involve trusting in activities for justification. For the Judiazers, it was the idea that keeping Moses’ ceremonies would help earn their salvation.  They also followed rules added to Moses’ laws by jewish religious leaders that they thought would make them right before God. For the gentiles’ idol worshipping religions, it was their man made rules and rituals that men’s spirits desired to create, to follow, and to trust for their salvation.  See Colossians 2 verse 8 and Galatians chapter 4: 3, 9.

why do you submit to them as though you lived in the world? – meaning, as Christians, we are dead to the world system’s approach to salvation because by faith we believe God has reckoned us to be dead, buried, risen, and seated in heavenly places in Christ for salvation.  Therefore, why follow the world’s way of salvation when you already have salvation in Christ.

Do not handle! Do not taste! Do not touch!” – examples of rules and rituals that were thought to achieve salvation if followed.

These are all destined to perish with use – meaning all these rules are in regard to things found in this natural world that will perish. Also this means these ideas will perish and not endure because they are man made ideas as shown below.

founded as they are on human commands and teachings – clearly stating that these rules and ideas are man made.

Were you in Christ at Calvary?

Bob,

The day I died for your sins I considered all believers to be in Me. Remember how Noah’s ark was saved on top of the waters when the judgement rain came?  Not only was the ark saved, but the eight souls inside were also saved.  I am your ark.  God reckoned all believers in Me when I was crucified, died, buried, and rose again.  And now that I am seated in heavenly places, so are all believers considered seated with Me. Therefore, your salvation is complete.  All believers were with me when I died for their sin.  Can you understand?  There is no reason to follow man’s rules and rituals to atone for your sins.  You were there when the sentence for sin was executed.  It is finished!  Have faith that I considered you with Me.
